About Me

Naomi lives in the Shuswap region of BC with her husband and her lazy—and occasionally sassy—polydactyl cat. Known for her lyrical prose and enveloping descriptions, Naomi has been telling stories since before she could properly hold a pen. Part-time OR nurse and full-time nerd, Naomi likes to spend her free time playing video games, eating candy, and coming up with book ideas that will make her mother blush.
Some Fun Facts:
-
I'm left-handed -- a gift and a curse.
-
I used to play roller derby (my main role was jammer!).
-
To be a jammer, you need to be a quick-thinker, strategic, and light on your toes. Ironically, I am the most indecisive, clumsiest girl you'll ever meet.
-
Growing up, I always wanted to be a paleontologist. My dream job was to work at the Royal Tyrrell Museum in Alberta.
-
I have a sweet-tooth, and an unfortunate lack of self control. I can buy a family-sized pack of gummies and eat it in a single sitting (hold your applause...it's a legit problem).
-
One of my childhood homes was an old nurse's living quarters. The hospital built next door burned down. I'm not saying the house was haunted... I'm just saying that, every once in a while, I could hear footsteps and whistling from upstairs when I was home alone. We also found several medicine vials and an old Victorian shoe while gardening.
-
I love reading horror. Watching it, on the other hand, gives me an aggressive amount of anxiety.
-
On the topic of horror movies: I think jump scares are a cheap way to earn a thrill and I WILL DIE ON THIS HILL.
-
Even as an adult, I like to dress up and play pretend. I used to attend anime conventions cosplaying as my favorite anime and video game characters. I'd also take my love of mermaids to the extreme by pretending to be one. A lot of my inspiration for The Hunt came from my time splashing around in the lakes of BC.
